Wow

I just watched the World Tournament in the Buu Saga where Videl fights Spopovich. That was not cool... at all...

reply

How so?

She is a legit fighter and I am sure they sign waivers.

reply

You wouldn't say that if a girl you cared about was in that arena getting brutalized. The match was clearly one-sided and had devolved from fighting to just abusive torture.

reply

So a Ronda Rousey, Holly Holm, Ali, etc countless women that defend themselves should never take a match, because they have a chance of getting brutalized? If they wanted to fight a man in a match should they not because they could get brutalized?

I will use that Yu Yu Hakusho quote again " She is a fighter and she is trying to get in our way. I don't care if she is a baby or someones grandmother, I will still knock her out."

Fighters shouldn't see gender, they enter the ring with confidence to win and knowing the risk no matter what.

reply

I wouldn't say it's gender specific. Since I don't know if the OP has finished the Buu saga, the same thing basically happens with Vegeta and Kid Buu. That was an absolutely brutal fight that made me physically ill watching it, especially given how long it was.

Personally, I don't like to see any character go though that. I think with Videl it was worse not because she was female, but because she's only human and as I recall isn't even as capable as characters like Krillin or Yamcha.

reply

Yeah, thinking about it, I wouldn't have been as bothered if it had been say Android 18, because she's super strong and can take a lot of punishment. Videl was just a normal teenager, and her opponent was not only enormous but sadistic.

reply

Plus, the other Z fighters were telling Gohan NOT to interfere, which pissed me off even more. And in the end, Gohan never gets to settle the score!

He would have been disqualified from the tournament. They were looking out for him. Are you saying that Gohan should have put the needs of some girl ahead of the well being of his mother and brother who were counting on the prize money to live on? Especially a girl who was disrespectful to his mother and brother and insulted his dead father when she first saw him.

You seem to conveniently forget how no one listened to Goku when he told him that she should quit the match and the fact that all Videl had to do was forfeit but she chose to continue with the beating. It was only the last part of the match when Spopovich didn't allow her to fall out of the ring and even then she could have simply tapped out which would have allowed Gohan to come to her aide without being disqualified.

Videl was an arrogant jackass who IMO was a bigger fool than her jackass of a father. At least he knew he was weak.

Ummm... YES! Since when do you put prize money ahead of someone who is clearly being pummeled to death? Sounds like you spent a lot of time coming up with all this nonsense to shake off how disturbing Videl's abuse was.

When your father is dead and your family is counting on you to provide for them. Especially when said girl's father used your greatest achievement to get rich. Videl and Satan were parasites who lived a life of luxury from leeching off Gohan's success.

All she had to do was tap out. She was only "being pummeled to death" because her own MASSIVE EGO wouldn't allow her to realize she was outmatched.

Only the very last bit of the battle when Spopovich didn't allow her to fall out of the ring was her suffering "abuse" and again all she had to do was tap out and anyone could have come to help her without being disqualified and jeopardizing the future of their family for a woman who CHOSE to take a beating.

Nope. It's not nonsense. She could have quit at anytime but her arrogance wouldn't allow it. She even got ample warning to quit the match from Goku but no one listened.

Her beating was on her and IMO well deserved. I was only disappointed that Goku let Gohan waste a perfectly good senzu bean on that parasite.

reply

Her own arrogance got her in that mess.

I think she deserved it and needed to be knocked down a peg. She basically insults Goku and his friends in front of Gohan when she first sees them and never apologizes. She's not nearly as strong as she thinks she is and had multiple opportunities to quit the match. She chose to keep getting beaten because of her own arrogance.

Goku saw it early in the match and suggested she quit.

reply

I think Gohan got it worse he got his energy drained and then later got knocked out by Buu,Goku thought he was dead.
