Why did Trunks destroy King Cold's ship?

Why did Trunks feel the need to destroy the ship?

Couldn't Bulma's father and the Z fighters have benefited from him being able to reverse engineer the tech from the medical lab like the healing tanks that both Goku and Vegeta used on Namek which helped them immensely?

Look at what Dr. Brief was able to accomplish from the remnants of Goku's space pod. Now imagine if he had a giant ship to work with and all the goodies inside.

I know they have senzu beans to heal but for some reason Korin only seems to have a small amount of those now when in Dragonball he had large containers full of them. Seems to me that those healing chambers would come in handy when there are no beans.
