How come Cobie Smulders played two roles?

Cobie Smulders appeared in The Heart of the Journey Part 1 and 2, in the beginning as a common refugee and later as Rhode's wife. Is there any story behind this?

My first thought when I saw her as his wife was they were put into a fake reality once again, but no. It seemed like her playing two roles had absolutely nothing to do with the actual story. Maybe practical reasons, did the actress who was supposed to play Rhode's wife back out or something? Really weird anyway.

Thank you! Finally someone who noticed that as well. So did another actor. I think if this show had a season 6 that's what would have happened. We would have found out that the whole ending of 5 wasn't real and that it was a trick. What gets me is the oh Rhade has a wife and kids all of a sudden.

It's not that uncommon on TV shows to use the same actors for different roles. Hell, an actress on Two and a Half Men appeared in 3 different roles before being given a recurring one.

Well yeah over the course of a few seasons. But it's two consecutive episodes. My guess is maybe one role got her the other. Like she was on set shooting the wife scenes and then did the other because they were short on time. Or maybe she did the planet scene and they liked her so much they did the wife scene.

maybe during the course of the entire series or the season... but with in the same episode.... not really a creative way of patching the need of actors...

The difference beteween genious and stupidity... genious has its limit

Ty Olsson also played 2 different roles in the finale.

One as one of the refugees, Moorehead irrc, and again as a Triumvir.

Are several of minor actors / actresses that have more then 1 bit role in this series. Just also like in the The Heart of the Journey, Ty Olsson Who plays the Triumvire, Morehead, whomever came up with that name lol But he also was in The Pearls that was his Eye in Season 2. One of the henchmen who worked for good ole Uncle Sid.
