Betty the nurse
Betty says that she ran away from home and joined the Navy. Did she also become a nurse somewhere during that time, or was she a nurses aide? Just curious.

shareI guess that she received her nurse's training in the Navy.
shareMust not have had much requirements to become a nurse in the 1940s. She was only 17. Nursing now requires at least 4 years.
shareMy dad was a combat medic in the army. When he came back home any hospital he applied to would only hire him as an orderly. Military training and real world training are completely different.
shareAn RN still can be obtained with a 2 year ADN and most nurses are still 2 year nurses.
My mom became an LPN during WW2 without going to school, just taking some tests. When Illinois required 1 year of vocational training and a license beginning in 1949, she was grandfathered in, so she never went to school but worked until her retirement around 1985.
Prior to the advent of JCs in the 50s and 60s, most RNs went to a 3-year hospital school of nursing to get their license.
Anyway, a good question as to when Betty got her RN.
