it is not a war movie.. It is a love story..

Don't know why anyone would think otherwise.. I think it is a great movie.

Haters gonna hate..

reply

So agree
It was a vey nice love story with the War and the attack to Pearl Harbor as a background, but you know what ?

I think the hate came more from thinking that they tried to hard to copy Titanic and many said it was poor Man's titanic.
Just like now many critics went all against the mortal instruments calling it a twilight wannabe flick.

Just to be clear I'm not saying twilight is a masterpiece or anything like that but I'm just just using it as an example of why many criticized Pearl Harbor.

reply

True!

I wish people could be a little more open minded and stop resorting to hate all the time!

You can't expect all films to be masterpieces!

So agree with this, we should enjoy all films for what they are, at the end masterpieces don't come often.
Anyway I loved Pearl Harbor and I don't like Ben Affleck as an actor or Romantic lead but I guess this time didn't bother me hehe.

Yes, It's a movie, well done too. And those that think the history channel does history, better take another look at all the reality shows.

Oh wait, those Duck Dynasty guys really live like that with all those beautiful women.
The Learning Channel only does cheap shows that people buy into.

Pearl Harbor was great entertainment! Period!

i do love the film, spectacular entertainment and saw it 4 times in theaters.

It's a bad war movie with a horrible wooden love story attached. Or vice versa, a horrible wooden love story with a bad war movie attached.

Do you hate me because I have no avatar? Do you even give a damn?

Well.....usually I would disagree and say that since there was war stuff in it and since it was circled around a historic moment in World War 2, it is a war movie....but nah I can't this time. This movie was mainly circled around this love triangle more than focusing on more important facts about the events leading up to the attack, the attack itself and the aftermath. They could have done a lot more when it comes to those thing instead of this love crap. I don't think this movie is terrible because the attack was well done in some ways and it was watchable in many parts...but I can't really call this a war movie. I think 6/10 is a good rating for this movie....I would of enjoyed it more if they had just really focused on a lot more information and not had that damn line "I think world war two just started"...........major facepalm moment there. I did recently rewatch the movie as I have never watched ALL of the movie except when it was first released 13 years ago, and the version I watched online cleaned up that line, in the version I watched Danny says "I think World War two just hit us".....much better.....and more accurate.
It pissed me off because they spent quite a bit of the start of the movie explaining that Germany and Britain were fighting during World war two WELL before Pearl Harbor even happened...and then they say that stupid line.

A very slight look at the history of WW2 prior to 12/7/41:

In Europe, Germany had overrun Poland, Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Yugoslavia and Greece. The USSR had occupied the Baltic republics, Eastern Poland, and had fought with Finland. Germany had been fighting the Russians since 6/22, were at the doorstep of Moscow, and the Reds had just launched their winter offensive a few days before.

In Asia, Japan had been engaged in the "China Incident" since 1937. They had occupied French Indochina in June, which led to the freezing of Japanese assets in the US and the oil embargo. Yamamoto, et al, had been planning the PH attack since January.

Britain had survived the blitz, had conquered Italian East Africa, and was still fighting bitterly with Germany and Italy in the North African theatre. The "Battle of the Atlantic" was also raging.

The US was trying desperately to gain time to build up its forces, but was already sending the bulk of its new equipment to Britain and the USSR under Lend-Lease. The draft act, passed in 1940, managed to be renewed by a single vote in the summer of 1941; America was still seriously divided.

The term "World War II" was first used by Time Magazine in September 1939. I haven't been able to determine if the name was in common usage prior to 12/7/41. More of the writer's hubris is saying "World War 2 just started."

I agree. It's one of my favourite movies, not because of the war but because its about love and friendship. People may criticise it now but i bet at the time of it's release they liked it which would explain why it did so well at the box office. They don't make movies like this anymore. Which is sad.

Revenge is a poison. Revenge is fit only for fools and madmen.

It's called Pearl Harbor. A movie called Pearl Harbor has no choice but to be a war movie. That's what everybody thought it was going to be, and it was awful. There was no right in what Bay did with this horrible film.

The movie still looks fantastic though many, many years later. He really knows how to shoot even if you don't like his films. Blame the writers more.

And a really, really crappy love story.
No it is not a great movie. It's not even good. It's crappy.

reply

It's a lifetime movie with a big budget.

There is nothing sweet about this movie. Why should Affleck get stuck with that chick that hooked up with his BF and got knocked up.

reply

It is a poop story.
