A person who claims to hate this movie, yet is absolutely and totally obsessed with it and this board. He responds to pretty much every thread here with either a hateful, condescending, hostile reply or just a grumpy explanation of....whatever the hell he's trying to explain.
He's not the only one though. There are TWO other guys - they know very well who they are - who I would say are even worse than CGSailor. A lot of times they're very close to troll-land. It's quite sad looking at those guys, really.
The problem is that they're not 10-year-old kids. You would expect that kind of childish behavior from kids. I get it, you don't like a certain movie. Good for you. But when you start obsessing over the stuff that don't make you feel good and you keep on pushing, it means you have a problem.
A psychiatrist would have a field day with those guys.
Now, I also dislike certain movies, books and songs. But it NEVER crossed my mind to go on message boards and start spreading hate for the stuff I don't like. What's the point? There is no point!
It's one thing to post a well-balanced, intelligent comment that is critical of a certain piece of art, it's TOTALLY different when you spread pure hate and/or negativity for years and years.
That means you have a problem. And it's not funny anymore.

Nope. That one's not true at all. I rarely spend any time on this board. The only reason I DO come here at all is because the film deals with a aubject mattwr which I am well versed in. Pearl Harbor.. There are the ocassional historical threads on here which are worth coming here for. And when I do check in to see if there are any good threads, there are usually several fanboy idiots (like you) posting such drivel about what is a grossly inaccurate film.
But weirdly fascinated with the film? no.
Haters and idiots are everywhere. So yes... I do have negative posts elswhere. But negative posts is not all I post or even most of what I post.

Oh no, I have no issues with people who can debate fairly and point out legitimate flaws in a film or show, even if I enjoy it, or put a reasonable defense for something I don't like. If they make a fair argument I'll concede to them, if not I'll continue the debate as I feel inclined to do so. I do not believe that I denied or ignored any of the mentioned mistakes, errors, or others ridiculous aspects to this or other films or shows or said nobody had the right to call those out if they saw fit. I believe my argument was that most people who are not very well versed in certain historical events, physics, or militaristic weaponry or vehicles can see past them and generally just focus on the story and characters, which for most film and tv viewers comes first. And, just because they don't feel as strongly about you call out doesn't make them weak minded "zombies" who eat everything up and are basically what's wrong with today's society or some crap like that.

Cartoonish CGI??? Wow! You really are neck deep in hate-land.
Pearl Harbor has some of the best visual efects in history, my friend. The ILM guys are VERY proud of it, they always include shots of the plane sequences in ILM reels and anniversary videos. On their website as well. Also, the movie was nominated for an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
You can talk about how innacurate Pearl Harbor is all you want, but don't you dare attacking or undermining the talented people who created these spectacular CG images. You want cartoonish CG planes and flying sequences?
Go watch Stealth, Flyboys and some of the scenes in The Aviator.

The CGI visually looks real.
However the CGI acts according to cartoon physics and aerodynamics.
If they had used real planes they never could have filmed the scenes because the real planes cannot do that.
Hence, Cartoonish.

You're in for a lot of disappointments if you use in the same sentence the words "physics", "aerodynamics" and "Hollywood". Of course Bay's gonna make those sequences a little bit exaggerated. He's making exciting/adrenaline-pumping movies so in this case you have to have those flying sequences. Are they realistic? Hell no. Are they exciting for the audience? Hell, yes. So from a purely filmmaker's POV Bay did it right.
He's making a MOVIE, for the ordinary audience. I'm sure if he was aiming to please people like you he would've been way more realistic.
By the way, while we're at it, why aren't you complaining about Tom Sizemore's character in Black Hawk Down? That was a character that walked calmly like he's in his house when he's literally surrounded by flying bullets and gunfire. It's like he was a superhero. And that's not planes, that's a real person. A character based on a real man - Colonel Danny McKnight. Was he even remotely realistic in the movie? Hell no. He's very exaggerated and many people have stated that it's simply not possible for a real person to act this way in an urban war zone.
So why don't you point that out, CGSailor? Why aren't you on the Black Hawk Down board exposing the mistakes? Or maybe you don't want to admit - even to yourself - the mistakes and all the exaggerations in movies you like (assuming you even like Black Hawk Down).

If they had used real planes they never could have filmed the scenes because the real planes cannot do that.
They had DOZENS of real planes on set. They shot a huge amount of scenes with real, old planes in the air. And that is obvious in the finished movie. It's all well-documented in behind-the scene-videos and it's something that the entire crew is very much proud of it. Go to YouTube and type "Creating Pearl Harbor". See it for yourself.
Btw, I recently watched a new interview with the cinematographer of Pearl Harbor. First, he's VERY proud of the movie. As he should be. Second, he said that they used more real planes than they actually needed. He also said, and I quote: "Most of the planes that you see in the movie are real." And he made it clear that if another filmmaker was making the same movie today you would've seen A LOT more CGI and fake planes and explosions. Which is absolutely true.
So CGSailor, the least you can do is give props to Bay and his crew for actually shooting a lot of real, exciting plane sequences. Not everything is CG.

And yes... Stealth and Flyboys are just as bad for many of the same reasons. I'll take your word for the Aviator as I havent seen it.
Another one just as bad is Red Tails. For the same reason.
The CGI plane is supposed to be a real aircraft. As such it has to behave as the real aircraft would.
But since it isn't a real aircraft, it behaves however the director wants it to. If he wants it to fly sideways, or take off backwards, tail first... it can.
Because of that, one must take care that you are making it act realistically.
Bay doesn't. He cares only that "it looks cool". Not whether it was realistic.

I never claimed that this is a perfect movie. Hell, I have my own issues with it, it's not even my favorite Bay movie. But no sane person who knows a little bit about filmmaking can say that this is a badly shot/executed movie. No, it's actually a fantastically shot movie, very well executed, and some of Hollywood's biggest behind-the-scenes talent worked on it. And yes, of course it's not entirely accurate. What Hollywood movie is?? Look at ANY historical/war movie ever made and you will find out that there are people who question some of the content. So why you pretend that Pearl Harbor is the only flick that is historically NOT accurate?
Have you seen U-571? Do you know how historically innacurate that movie is? Ask any British person and you'll see. Pearl Harbor may not be accurate, but it's NOT in any way offensive toward the people who were there. And unlike U-571 it's not re-writing history.

You're not a critic. A critic, a GOOD critic, is someone who offers CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. I say it again, CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.
