For it's (mostly) implied violence and possibly unintentional dark humour, Ralph Fiennes does a good job of being both slightly sympathetic and *beep* insane at the same time.

This film however, was too gruesome for me (I admit I am a bit sensitive to horror I can just about watch Dexter, again...mostly implied, but this in particular the disfigured guy and ray liotta's scene were too much even for me)

Yes, Red Dragon was better than this movie. Silence of the Lambs beats them both.

Agreed. I would rank them in the order of SOTL, Red Dragon & then Hannibal.

I think HANNIBAL is a much better film - more nuanced and psychological. To each his own though.
