Question about the guy who was stabbed in the street by Lecter

He said Lecter was aiming for his balls but he missed. How did he know he was aiming for his balls? Was he right? If so why would he have aimed for his balls? And was he going to stab his balls or something? Also, where was he stabbed for him to bleed that much and die so suddenly?

Hannibal sliced his femoral artery, which is why he bled out so fast. I think when Gnocco says he was aiming for his balls he was probably just delirious from the blood loss.
