Guy who got stabbed: why didn't he want help?

Just curious as to why that pick pocket guy, after Hannibal stabbed him, didn't want that cop to help him? The cop was gonna help him (would've been pointless, but still) and he was like, "No!" Then he quickly just bled out and died.

Gnocco (the pickpocket guy) was trying to keep his hand over his wound to try and clot the bleeding, but Pazzi (the cop) was actually trying to keep Gnocco's hand off of it so Gnocco would bleed out and die. Pazzi was too greedy for the money, so he didn't want Gnocco to possibly, but unlikely, live and tell what Pazzi was up to. Pazzi never wanted to get help for Gnocco. Hope this helps. Even though I like the movie better, the novel does a better job of explaining about Pazzi and Gnocco.
