Old celestial beings are slow
I loved this film and this is one of my favorite quotes (paraphrased) from the movie, 2046, a movie about a lonely man, a movie which I enjoyed very much, although it is still too complex for me to understand, so I am going to have to watch it a few more times or read a review that makes sense to me. I did remember the scene where the 2046 train conductor/ticket master is trying to explain the behavior of celestial beings and how, after living many lifetimes, they become tired, and one can tell an old celestial being, because their responses slow down so that when something painful occurs, they might not cry until the next day, and if you ask them a question, they might not respond immediately, they might just stare, and not be able to give an answer - until the next day. I would rate this movie a 10. It is spellbinding, sweet, heart-warming, peaceful yet poignant and beautiful with a lot of anecdotes to ponder like the one I just described. This man's loneliness can make you see people in a more compassionate way and view life with more hope. My impression was that he did not want to spend his life in (what he considered to be) a futile world of memories where there was probably no future and he would rather live his life with hope in his heart for something better, accepting what he thought could be "fate . . perhaps". Due to the graphic love scenes, I would not recommend this for children at all. Otherwise, it's a fantastic movie and I love the soundtrack and the original music by Shigeru Umebayashi, as well as the actors and actresses. It's all good.
