Do I have to have seen its predecessors?

I picked this up for $1 at a nearby Blockbuster going out of business. I've never seen a Wong Kar-Wai film and after reading the back of the box, it sounded like a really interesting film. I'm just wondering how vital it is to have seen the first two films first or if this one can be viewed first or by itself. Any help is appreciated.

I think any of the three films in this 'series' stand alone quite well. That being said, In the Mood for Love (the 2nd of the films) helps for character insight and plot development.

Days of Being Wild (the first film) is just a fantastic film and you should see it as well. However, from my own experience of watching these films, I find it to be the most detached of the series. This could possibly owe to the fact that the main characters are different in the first film.

After all of that, I think it would be best to watch it in order.

I've seen all the predecessors long time before I watched movie today. You could begin from Chungking Express, then In the Mood for Love, and finally Days of Being Wild. Well, I don't know how many predecessors are there for this film, but those 3 are enough I think.

Silencio...
