So sad Amelie is plagiarized...

I absolutely adore this movie, so I was very sad to read that part of this movie was 'inspired' by the movie 'Lucille et Le Photomaton' by Sebastien Nuzzo in 1992. Nuzzo apparently sued Jeunet in 2003 and lost. But take a look at the movie and judge for yourselves.

A quote from it:
"The short film was released in 1992, nine years before Amelie, was selected for several film festivals and even won a prize at the festival of Pantin. Lucille tells the charming story of a young Parisian who falls in love with a mysterious man whose left pictures she finds in a photo booth, and the eventual repair turns out to be. But that's not the only similarity. The setting in the Paris Montmarte, the romantic kitschy atmosphere, the voice-over, the charming naivety of the main character, it's all painfully familiar, but look especially yourself here."

The article also mentions another short that could be part of the inspiration for Jeunets movie.

Thank you for this post. I also love Amelie, and I found very interesting the short film Lucille et Le Photomaton. There are too many "coincidences" between both films, but knowing that soooo many movies are "inspired" by others, this doesn't seem strange to me, or touch sensible fibers, likes it looks happened with user "demolition_xxx".

Now I'm going to share the short film with some friends, I guess it's the best hommage you can do for the inspirer of Amelie.

Wow. How could they even lose that lawsuit? I guess Jeunet had the expensive kind of lawyers that have that kind of lawsuit for breakfast. The other guy certainly got screwed out of a fortune.

The least you can do when you get "inspired" by something is give credit where credit is due. I'm sure a nice settlement would have done the trick but why do that when you can just keep the money and get the lawsuit crushed by your expensive lawyers?

Really surprised the "controversy" hasn't gained greater traction amongst the cinematic community.🐭

Was there ever a successful lawsuit about a "plagiarized" movie story? Plenty of songs, but not any major movie I'm aware of.

You make a very good contrasting point about the number of successful lawsuits against songs, as opposed to movies. I also have to admit amazement at times with some of the successful high profile cases. Still having trouble believing for instance that My Sweet Lord was deemed to be a rip-off of He's So Fine.🐭
