Disgusting depiction of Paris

I found the diversity in this film to be utterly lacking, borderline racist actually. They should've shown Paris like the multicultural paradise that it is today. How is this acceptable?

There was a big controversy about this in France at the time. No diversity, except the slightly retarded grocery clerk. I'm not sure how the director responded to it. To me it's simply nostalgia for the old France that's lost.

Now your phrase "multicultural paradise" is probably meant as a plaisanterie anyway. For various reasons the other cultures don't mix.

As a Brit who has grown up hearing mostly negative things about "the French", this film makes me love France! A true masterpiece, it cannot be a bad thing - regardless of the diverse themes the critics seem to think it lacks - to produce a film that would be considered a gem whatever language, culture or genre it transcends.
If I was told tomorrow that I had one more day to live and had to choose a movie to watch in the last moments, Amelie would be my choice.

You really struggle with genre, huh? Do you think Episode 4 presented a fair portrayal of the Empire, or was it a bit too harsh?

reply

I was just kidding guys. I loved the movie.

I thought its beautiful.
