Bruno Delbonnel
Cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel has got to be one of the most creative DPs in the business today.
After watching his later features, "Big Eyes" and "Inside Llewyn Davis", I ha d to see his earlier masterpiece, "Amélie". Here, his cameras seem to be forever in motion, and there is no wasted motion, thanks to also superb editing. Delbonnel apparently loves shooting from a low angle; there's a lot of it here. But, every possible angle - and then impossible ones - are employed to bring humor, sadness, loneliness, weirdness, bizarre behavior, life in all its emptiness, and everything else humans are capable of.
If you haven't seen any of his other films, search them out for a thrilling ride through life. His images go directly to the emotional centers in your brain, bypassing the technical ones.
