I really can't figure out...Were the writers serious?

Space?? Like really? This one of the cheesiest movies I've ever seen. I know other movies like Leprechaun in the Hood are supposed to be funny but most of the laughable parts are at stuff like horrible acting and cheesy deaths. Were the writers on this one?

"In space" is the quintessential "cheese" of any series like this. Yes, they knew what they were doing. It would be similar to "Flipper in space". It's a spoof..a joke. And apparently I'm the only one who a) understands this because b)I enjoyed the movie. I thought it was awesome. But yes, if I didn't understand what they were doing, I guess I could see why people hate it so much.

It was pretty blatantly obvious Todd Farmer wasn't serious in writing this script. I'm wondering if posters are being serious when they say they don't get this movie.

It's a parody of old horror franchises wherein the endless sequels would stretch the original idea way beyond the point of breaking. Jason is definitely not the first villain to go in to space, though he may be the first horror icon to do it in a self referntial way, See what universal did with Wolfman and Frankenstein etc As with FVJ (which was a play on old creature vs creature movies) Jason X is all about celebrating the guilty pleasure nature of the series with one of these completely over the top sequels. This film is a joke, but is one that you have to be in on to find it funny

Maybe that's why I like it and why I would even call it one of my favorite Jason movies. It's supposed to be stupid. It's not a deep psychological thriller that's meant to take itself seriously...it's stupid cheesy fun!

Me too, i love it!

I really don't get the hate that a lot of fans have for it; it's not like it was making a fourth godfather or anything (or i guess, a third). At least if nothing else it played with the formula a lot and accepted that people watch the franchise for the fun rather than the horror elements of it

Yeah, i don't get it either. After a series of increasingly awful cookie-cutter sequels, the filmmakers, knowing how ludicrous these movies are, decided to just have some fun with it & the film is basically just a massive piss-take. It's a while since i've seen it but i remember being surprised at how entertaining it was. Definitely not to be taken seriously though! Mmmm, big sexy with glasses!

I gotta admit it was pretty funny when the gay guy was talking about being 'game'.

Exactly. I mean, just look at that scene in the film where Jason keeps getting up as Kay-Em showers him with bullets. The music alone (and, of course, the situation) was very telling of the film's intention.

Of course they weren't serious. The film's a comedy.

You could say the same thing about Jason VIII. "New York?? Like really? This one of the cheesiest movies I've ever seen."

And the acting is far above par for the franchise. The cheesy deaths are supposed to be funny and if you knew that, why are you asking whether they are serious?

If this one's a comedy, where is the fun?

Apart from a few (very few) silly moments, all I see is a movie with all the fun goofiness sucked from it.

When a movie has smiling bikini clad campers being beaten to death with each other in their sleeping bags... you know it is not even trying to be even remotely serious. The film was obviously a comedy.

That would be my explanation as well. They were obviously thinking very hard about ideas that could top the ridiculousness of previous sequels. They sendt Jason into space and made him act out like alien vs. Ripley because having him go berserk on Manhattan wasn't enough. The mere idea of Jason in space is so hysterical I still cannot believe they got the movie made!

I think they can overdo it even further tho. They could make another Friday the 13th sequel based on a time-travel concept (culminating with a scene where they go back to save Jason in 1957).
