10/10 in entertainment and fun. No idea why it's got below 5.
Most of the Friday the 13th installments are boring as $hit and repetitive as fück. This ain't it. This one is pure balls to the walls fun. And for those who are kill buffs who like to talk about the best and most gruesome deaths in the F13 series, yes the deaths that Tom Savini was involved with were pretty good. But after he didn't return to continue making the special effects, there were very few amusing kills. Jason X is super creative with its killing so if the actual slashing in a slasher is important to you, Jason X and Freddy VS Jason is the way to go. Jason Goes to Hell had a couple cool ones as well, most noticeably the girl who gets a metal bar rammed through her and then cuts upwards, splitting her open.
But you can't just go by gore factor to judge the quality of a movie. Yes, this is another one of those franchises that went to space for one installment, but by far, this is the best rendition of that that I have ever seen. I mean compare this to Critters 4 or Leprechaun in Space. Just... no.
Jason X is reigning champion of awesomeness when it came to make its space movie. It's similar to the movie Doom. You could easily watch these two movies back to back for a great night with your buddies.
This movie is seriously underrated though. Even "New Nightmare" received 6.4. At the very least, that is what this movie deserves for being as memorable and fun as it is. I won't defend this as a good movie in the sense that you'd defend movies reaching for the Oscars, but this is one of those top of the line sort of movies when it comes to having fun, like Cabin in the Woods, Mortal Kombat, Anaconda, The Faculty, Species, Evil Dead 2, Gremlins 2. Although the case can be made for Evil Dead 2 as a great movie, and The Faculty as a damned good movie, they share qualities with even some of the other bad movies in entertainment and rewatch value.
Jason X is criminally underrated.
