The stupid thing is in reading interviews with the real players it never even happened, the writers just put it in there to raise an issue they wanted raised. Other than that it was a great movie.

Didn't see anything wrong with it. Sunshine wanted to get even with bertier for vs calling him a fruitcake.

These days you are right. And not that it wouldn't have technically been assault back in the 70s as well BUT you are not accounting for the different culture of that time OR the culture of football back then (and probably for the most part these days). Anything like that or similar would have been routine hazing/messing with other players. The fact that it is a kiss probably makes people think more of it but it is not really different than using a towel to snap a rat's tail at someones behind which is also assault. It wasn't awful at all and I agree with most the other posters that it wasn't indicative of Bass' sexual preference so much as a prank/busting of the balls etc.
