Why was coach Boone so hard on Petey?
He seemed to be overtly hader on him than others?
shareI always thought it was his way of kinda showing or proving that he was unbiased towards the white players.
shareI'm pretty sure u r right joshua. He even gave a short speech to the other coach about not treating any players differently.
shareAnd he didn't, as evidenced by how he treated Bertier and his buddy when the team was leaving town for training camp. But Boone was right. When Yoost showed sympathy toward Petey, it was patronizing. Even Yoost began to realize this, which was why he wouldn't allow Petey to play for him in the championship game.
shareI thought it was because Petey was sort of a load mouth braggart type. Sort of painted a target on himself right away when he pumps his fist on seeing Boone. It was an attempt at "Black Solidarity" to man who was dead set on the team working regardless of race. Now of course Petey worked fine with the other white players. I just meant from a first impression stand point, not the smartest move.

Petey was a Prima Donna, he just happened to be black. He quit on Coach Boone and Coach Yost in critical situations.
