For Those Who Want a Remake...

In case you haven't signed this already:

http://www.petitiononline.com/chr1337/petition.html

It's a petition informing Square Enix of the lack of appreciation we, the consumers have of them using corporate clout to take legal action against 5 developers who spent years creating (for no profit) an updated Chrono Trigger--something that Square will never do anyway.

Corporate clout? While the that project did look interesting. Why is it that people are unable to look at the issue from both sides. SE's response is not unreasonable, sorry. Chrono Trigger is their copyright and it isn't an unreasonable thing for them to not want people to alter something they created.

They spent years creating it only to have SE tell them to stop. The logical point here would be that before even starting why not contact SE and tell them of their intentions?

An equation for me has no meaning unless it expresses a thought of God.

reply

It was unreasonable. They weren't altering the original product in any way. They were creating their own piece of artwork that was influenced by the original. And they were not selling it therefore SE had no right to bitch.

reply

Screw Square-Enix, they haven't made a good game in years, and now they're just part of a big corporate oligopoly. That's why games are so expensive nowadays too.

You said it. They're a joke.

They revolutionized gaming and took it into literature. Into art. Depth in the realm of globalization and environmentalism in FF7. A love story that literally examined the consequences of timelessness in FF8. 3 years later? The first truly FF sequel kicks off with a pop concert pulled straight from the ass of mainstream Total Request Live culture.

Their games now are more manufactured and uninspired than the socks I buy from Kmart.

I enjoyed FF10 a little and XII wasn't that bad, but still it doesn't compare to the gloriousness of let's say: Chrono Trigger or Xenogears. They are horribly manufactured and have no heart. Game companies are no longer the small companies that were made up of a few people trying to put the best quality game out they cana possibly do; now they just put 80% into the budget of the graphics and 15% into marketing and the rest is put into development.

I have a problem with FF8, it's a decently good game but with the success of FF7, Squaresoft decided to put the majority of their budget into making FF8 instead of Xenogears, and Xenogears now has a lot of pieces missing thet could not be put in because of their shortsightedness.

Anyway, I'm done with my rant, you can go home now.
