CT needs a trilogy, or a big budget film.
Yeahp. In my opinion. Make it like LotR, or SUPER long, like Titanic/King Kong size. People would go see it, I can almost guarantee it so.

shareI was just about to get on here just to post the exact same idea.
Chrono Trigger NEEDS a trilogy, like LOTR.
If the right people made it, it would be sweet.
but if CT had a film, would crono have any lines?
or would he just wave his arms about, like that girl from "Stingray"?
"Remember, it is the blood of Caine that shapes our fate. Farewell, Vampire."
But chrono abtually does have lines in the game but they are a bit hidden you can know what they are by thinkng the answers they give to him
shareoh, god, no!
video game movies suck. period.
even if you could make it big budget, long, it wouldn't be worth it. this is (IMHO) the best game of all time. a movie would not be good. a new game would be nice, yes. on DS. an excellent place for it. but no movie. go pick up the game, get all 14 different endings, and then ask yourself if you'd really want to watch a movie about it. playing through it is much more satisfying, entertaining, and time consuming.
the end.

I think the same thing, about 95% of it. I just find playing /Devil's Advocate/ can stir up some good points. I KNOW the game will always be the best, hands down. I did my 12th grade final english paper on it. But I still think if it was given the right people, it could be made into a movie, just about the main timeline w/Lavos at the end of the Black Omen, etc. I think that if we doubt video game movies so often, and they are made, our premade notions that it will be bad will take over and it will actually be bad, or we, as gamers, will all be so stubborn and think it is bad, even if it is great, Live Action or Animated.
Personally, I like to see books, games, etc made into movies, because from a fellow artist's perspective, I enjoy seeing other takes on the universes and creations made by others and put to true life by actors and other artists. All of my opinions on books/games to movies are mostly artistic.
And besides, its the people doing it, not the concept. Anything can be a movie, it just needs the right artists behind it. :]

What would be better in my opinion is a HIGH HIGH HIGH BUDGET tv show that basically retells the story with a few changes and what not. Now that would be awesome...screw watching a movie....every week there would be a new episode of Chrono Trigger to watch and it WILL draw ratings from all over.

If they can make Transformers look the way its looking now, Chrono Trigger (Dont shoot me, but even Dragonball Z) would look out-of-this-world awesome. Hollywood wont do a movie the way they want it, because Square Enix has a big say in the movie since they have the rights to it. Which is maybe why they didnt come out with one yet.
Thats also why Zelda and a new Mario movie hasnt been done yet, Nintendo owns those 2 and they want to keep the rights to do the movies themselves so they say.
But a Live Action Chrono movie would actually look great, a 'real live' movie looks more real than a complete CGI movie. 100% CGI movies will be considered Cartoons within the next decade anyway, there is no other market for a complete CGI piece of work IMO
Nintendo needs to put Chrono on VC, and THEN make a movie out of it when Chrono becomes known to all the millions of Wii users.
Even if the movie is bad, they can just make it in 3D like Beowolf.
I'ts the only RPG game that I ever loved playing, so it needs to come back in some form.
I agree with the TV show angle, I was thinking it they were to do that why not get the guy who drew the characters to make the Anime, he's already shown what it would look like in the Added animated scenes in the PSX and DS and it looks like it would make a very interesting anime
shareI wonder why they couldn't just make some more CT games and release them on the SNES. I mean, who the hell says that the SNES is dead? It has way better games than Playstation and Xbox put together!
"Monday Monkey lives for the weekend, sir."
Square-Enix doesn't want to make games that don't sell very well. SE is looking to sell games from a business perspective. If you look at FF7, that game sold more than a million copies in the US. You look at CC, it wasn't even close to it.
I love CT+CC, and SE should make more of it, however they are being very ridiculous. This is only my opinion, but anyone lately notices how SE is starting to make sucky/crappy games (ie. Dirge of Cerberus, FFXII, etc). CT+CC were excellent games w/ excellent storylines. They should just continue making the Chrono series instead of new titles that would not make impressionable moments to gamers.
How do we know they wont wreck the storyline? I mean..yes Chrono Cross leaves unanswered questions (masamune, guardia, original cast etc..) but..looking at the games today...how do we know they wont just ruin it? Maybe the saying 'quit while youre ahead' should apply here.
shareWe dont know that they wont ruin it, and actually I can almost ASSURE You they will! Each and everyone has a completly diffrent experience with Chrono Trigger! COMPLETLY DIFFRENT!!!! Even the small things, like would Chrono be innocent or guilty in the trial (I say innocent cuz in real llife you wouldnt eat someones cake :P Only a video game would make you think "Hey look a cake! Yum!"
AND PLEASE PLEASE EVERYONE THINK ABOUT THIS!!!!
How the fudge do you expect to have all the greatness in just 3 hours of footage? It would be the biggest insult to Chrono Trigger. Even a trilogy of 9 hours wouldnt capture it and also you cant neatly fit the story in 3 parts. I am a huge CT fan and I am saying that a movie will ruin everything! Now I am ok with the idea of it as a 2d or 3d ANIMATED SERIES. Then they can capture each adventure in about 30-45 mins. Like for example the first one should end just when Chrono comes out of the end of the first portal.
AND CONSIDER THIS AS WELL:
Chrono Trigger is amazing just amazing. A 3D REMAKE would be great, id love it....but then non fans would like it too. And I dont want that. I believe a great thing about Chrono Trigger is its defence against the fudgers who think "Ew this game has crap graphics, its crap" I dont want those people ever to enjoy this amazing story! (Seriously I told a friend of mine to play it and thats what he thought!)
Oh and as for live action:
2d or 3d animated. I doubt anyone will have any objection to that. If you want real actors I hope you die (No offence but yeah burn in hell)
CONCLUSION
-NO FREAKIN MOVIES!!!!!!! EVER!!!!!! (Maybe diffrent story like a sequel but NOT CHRONO TRIGGER!!!)
-Not too sure about a 3D remake.
- A Sequel like Cross would be ok
- An animated series would be not bad too. BUT DONT CHANGE A DAMN THING. You cant make perfect any better, just worse!
Sorry for the rant.
OH AND FOR THOSE WHO THINK IT WILL BE A GOOD MOVIE:
google a script. Chrono Symphonic has one.
I read the first few pages and the inaccuracy is killing me. Maybe not all of you. But I think it is not meant to be rushed like that.
Hope I made sence im not proof reading.
if there were to be a movie, I think it should be the final battle only. Honestly I think there should be an Anime Series from this, I know the subjective nature of this is pretty spectorial, well what I would do is either
A. Ask the game creators, what they did in the game (if they played the game, or perhaps if they were to play it)
B. Fan polls
I would personally have it go through all the side-quests including the Black Omen. And make several episodes just to show the diffrent endings. I would NOT do Live Action at all.

Anime is Forever
If someone were to make a movie of this story they would just screw it up. Just leave it as its original medium, they way it was intended to be and not screw it up.
Paul W S Anderson and Uwe Boll should learn to get an original idea and stop pissing people off...
Off all the ideas, I personally like the idea of a series the best...And yes I think it would have to be animated. An anime series would be good in the right hands (Like Production I G, for instance), but a big budget CG (Like FF) series would be even better! Even though I think a ton of people would watch it, I'm sure, To Square, it wouldn't make financial sense. Right now anyway, that stuff is still too expensive to produce...(Then again I saw some of that Starship Troopers series and it looked Amazing, but I heard there were only so many episodes, but I never got an exact number except to say that there's 3 they never made) And if I may mention, it would have to be on Cartoon Network! If it were on Sci-Fi they would Time compress the end credits while running an ad over the top and G4 would spend so much time advertising that Star Trek is up next that you'd want to kill yourself...Seriously, why do these networks feel the need to advertise the next show with little icons and banners and sound effects, WHILE you're watching the show you actually want to see? As if they don't have enough ad space in between the show segments. (OK that was my rant!)
shareA TRILOJY? *beep* A TRILOJY. MAKE IT 1 FILM.
shareOne film would suffice and Uwe Boll should direct it.
shareI have been considering this for some time, now obviously it could not be an exact translation of the game to film. However to take the basic premise and characters, the time travel aspect, especially the post apocalyptic future and use that as a guideline, a CC film could be a good film. I'm waiting for the day when a great game will get justice done by it on the big screen.

I'd rather see a miniseries, or like an anime.
I was willing to give you whatever life you wanted...just to keep you out of mine!
