What was the cult's motivation?

We're told that the cult wants to resurrect Imhotep so that he'll kill the Scorpion King and give Imhotep command of Anubis' army, presumably allowing him to conquer the world. But doesn't the cult realize how expendable they'll be to Imhotep after he's resurrected? Why would Imhotep spare their lives and share his riches and power? You can see how little he actually cared about them during the Pygmy attack. He easily could have spared most of the cult from being killed, but he didn't.

Blondes, brunettes, and redheads.

Say you're one of thirty or so cult members who helped Imhotep become world ruler. Maybe he'll make you governor of some tiny and insignificant domain such as, say, Vermont.

Do you know how many fine young women live in Vermont? Many times more than enough to keep you continually worn out for the rest of your life, if you get my drift.

Sure they are expendable, but also loyal. If Imhotep is ruler of the world, he will certainly look favorably on this cult who gave him the advantage. Imhoteps main motivation is supposed to be his love interest, not riches.

The others had the right idea. We know from the first film that Benny was being rewarded for aiding Imhotep. The cult was more expendable as his main focus was saving his love and then pursuing the prize. In the first movie, he didn't exactly go to any length to save Benny....so allowing the cult to sort of fend for themselves wasn't a stretch nor a sign he wouldn't favor them upon gaining ultimate power.
