I love these movies

Seriously, these are hysterical, my friends and I LOVE them! People who get all high and mighty about the movies sucking need to stop taking some movies so seriously. Come on, a blunt-smoking leprechaun? They're not trying to win an Oscar here, folks! These movies are very funny, I'm glad Warwick Davis has enough of a sense of humor to keep doing them!

I dont see why hollywood has to WASTE money on making these kind of movies. They serve no purpose, except maybe show how pissy a leprechaun can be, but thats it. There is never been a good plot for any of these movies.

the only reason they make these movies is because there funny they been keeping me entertained so make more

reply

They have a huge cult following and always sell well on video/DVD. I expect there'll be a couple more along the way.

"Hollywood" spends their money on lots of other things and can afford to make an occasional Leprechaun movie too. No one is going to like every single movie that's ever been released, and a wide variety to choose from is better than having everything be more or less the same.

reply

i doubt hollywood had anything to do with this film

reply

It's definitely a Hollywood product, just not a very high-budget one. Trimark Pictures, which made the first five movies, is based in the Los Angeles area very close to Hollywood. Lions Gate Films took over Trimark and made the sixth one, but it was made from the LA division, not any of the Canadian offices.

I also love these movies because they are so hilariously bad. I even bought the "Pot of Gore" collection off of ebay...it's the first 5 movies (doesn't include Back 2 the Hood, the latest release). It was a pretty solid buy for only 25 bucks. You can make pretty good drinking games out of these movies too. And in response to the nudity question...only in 2,3, &4 is there nudity (lep in "Big City", Las Vegas and Space)

#5 has a topless scene too, with a twist.

HAHAHA! I didn't even think about that! Hilarious... hey Lepconnie, how about an update on those figurines? I tried emailing the link on Warwick's webpage but i got the email sent back to me. Know anything new about that business?

reply

No figurine news at the moment. Warwick's currently involved in a stage production that will wrap up in a couple more weeks, and once that's finished we can hope that he'll have time to do something with the figure.

I'm surprised that your email was returned. You might want to try again. His email address is [email protected] according to his webpage, and I'm not aware of any recent changes.

Couldn't agree more :)

Well, I didn't know what to think when my dad gave this DVD to me at the end of last year. I'd heard of a movie called Leprechaun years back but never had the chance to see it, and noticed in REALLY small print on the cover that this was actually Leprechaun 5, so I watched.

And laughed my ass off!

I've since seen the first 3 too, and although I'd say Lep in the Hood is the weakest of the bunch I've seen (although Lep 4 is meant to be worse), it's by no means a 'bad' movie. I like the Ice T hairstyle at the start of the movie, and the 'Friend with weed' rhyming couplet is quite a good one. A couple of the 'deaths' are quite amusing too, and as you say, the leprechaun rap at the end, lol :)

reply

(although Lep 4 is meant to be worse)

"Worse" is in the eye of the beholder. There's no agreement among Lep fans about which movies are the best or worst, and each one seems to have about the same percentage of people who say it's the best, the worst, or some specific rank in between.

Even if you know what someone thinks about a particular movie, it won't help you guess what they think about the others. So you never know, #4 might turn out to be your favorite. (It isn't mine, though; I rank it at #5, slightly ahead of the first movie.)

Now I've seen Lep 4: In Space, I don't think it's that bad. Extremely cheap, yes, but the whole movie struck me as intentionally bad and the people who put it together obviously had quite an appreciation for sci-fi 'B' movies and the glut of cheap sci fi TV shows that are constantly pumped onto TV.

I still personally think Leprechaun in the Hood is the weakest of the Lep movies that I've seen (I've not seen Back 2 Tha Hood yet) but that is by no means a bad thing as I still enjoyed it and would be prepared to watch it again, in the same way that I really like Toxic Avenger Part 2, but still think it's the weakest of the 4 'Toxie' movies when all's said and done.

'Worse' is indeed in the eye of the beholder, but judging by the comments that I've seen on the forums here, and quite a few other forum in cyberspace, the percentage of people who dislike Leprechaun 4: In Space seem to dislike it with a passion usually only reserved for movies like 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' (even if they liked/tolerated the other movies in the series) and opinion on it seems to be more split than with any of the other Lep movies, hence I believed it was possibly a 'worse' movie than this one.

However, I'm never one to let other people make an opinion for me, so I bought the movie on DVD anyway and quite enjoyed it, for what I believe it was trying to achieve.

So I still personally rate Lep in the Hood lowly when compared to the other Lep movies. But on it's own merits, I think it's great. :)

The first time I watched Lep in the Hood, I spent the first hour thinking they'd just wrecked the series. But then everything suddenly came together in the last half hour and I loved it. Since then, I have no problem with the first hour of the movie. When I rank the Lep movies there are three that are almost in a tie with each other, but I do have slight preferences. In order they're #3, #2, and #5.

The Lep rap in #5 is a huge part of its ranking because I think that bit is the high point of the whole series. Every Lep movie has some GREAT moments, but I like that one most of all.
