Can anyone please explain to me what exactly happens in the end of this film. I didnt understand if the leprechaun didnt die, then why did the medallion go back on his neck at the end? Please explain

We never see where the medallion goes. They make us assume that it landed on the Leprechaun's neck, then they make us realize that it actually missed.
