Yes the original 1971 version all the way as it was a bleak and nasty end which was unexpected but totally suited the film. Not just another predictable "drives off into the sunset" job!

Yes, but Carter in this version is much more human and sensitive (at least toward his niece) than the original Carter, and I thought the ending with Doreen in the cemetary suited it better...

Carter was very human and sensitive towards his niece in the 1971 original and the fact he went from one extreme to the other proves how versatile an actor Michael Caine really is.

Plus the original rocks, where as the remake doesn't!

The original ending 1,000 times over. I love it when the main character dies at teh end, especially in this type of a film where it adds that much more realism.

It's not a lie if you believe it.
