I'd seen this film before, but I thought I'd watch it again just to be sure, and I'm amazed.... it's even better the second viewing. This was an excellent film! Why all the negative comments and poor box-office.

This is Stallone's best performance in my opinion, and it's what really makes the film. He doesn't say much, but when he does, he says a lot. Mostly, though, he communicates with his eyes. There are a lot of close-ups, and Stallone's performance is subtle and convincing, and I'm not even a fan of Stallone's. Mickey Rourke is also very good. In fact, every actor in this movie turns in a solid performance, and the film is stylishly directed by Stephen Kay. 3 1/2 stars easily

I couldn't agree with you more.

This movie was shot beautifully. Every frame I watched suggested someone was meticulous in creating artful cinematography.

Stallone is such a difficult actor to understand. He's capable of such great performances (First Blood - Rocky - Cop Land - Get Carter) & yet, floats up a piece of $h1T every once in a while (Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot - Tango & Cash -Judge Dredd & a host of others).

I think he needs to respect the limitations of his range. Stallone sucks at comedy, yet, is really expressive with drama & serious emotion. I mean, you really nailed it about him being good at emoting with his eyes in this movie.

Ditto on the supporting cast. Everyone brought their "A" game. Not a single weak link. Incredible casting.

I'll second these opinions. Too many 'Movie snobs' out there. Saying this is a good film does not mean you hate the original version. The IMDB rating is skewed by 'Haters' - should be an 8.5 - solid entertainment, great acting, pace, action etc...

That is true. This is one of those films that the more you look at it the better it is. People hate it for stupid reasons and like other films for stupider reason. Dont worry about what other people. Just be glad your not like them. A lot of people today cant even appreciate art today.
