Different title might have helped

I found Get Carter (Stallone) watchable but it’s not as good as the Caine version, it was not even the same kind of film. It’s a Stallone vehicle, tailored for an American audience (sentimentality + violence and definitely no sex) and possibly with thoughts of a sequel for the character. If they had given the film a different title it would have been OK but by setting it up for comparison with an iconic film they were asking for poor reviews.

Agree totally. What was the reason for the same title? Inexplicable.
Stallone plays it cool, but the plot is unfocused, while there isn't much action. As you say, watchable. 3/4

They should have kept it closer to the original

Cobra, you mean closer to the Ted Lewis' 1969 original Title ’ Jack's Return Home’ , or closer to the novel, or to the original UK Film ?

reply

The original UK film

It might have helped. The ambiguity of the 'Title' remains.

Good point. They are different films.

Although there are many problems with the new version, I like it. With new characters and a new title, the film may have done better at the box office, and Steven Kay might have had a more meaningful career.
