Why did Cyrus Allow Carter to live after the first fight?

Even though this film only has a 4.8, in my own personal opinion I think it was a slick movie. The only thing that bothered me a lot about the movie is the scene which takes place at the billionaires party towards the end.. Rourke basically tells Carter he did his brother after the first fight ended, with Carter nearly knocked out and Cyrus just walks away from him... Clearly Cyrus knows Carter is a dangerous man, he knows his profession, and Cyrus though sleazy, seemed like a halfway intelligent thug.. I never understood the point of him just walking away from Carter after confessing to the murder. The entire film Cyrus played it pretty smart, but then he just decides to tell him I'm the guy your after , then return to the party dance floor as if Carter is just going to walk outside to his car and drive back to Vegas? I mean what was he thinking? I know it's a movie and all but it just didn't make sense to me that Cyrus would just confess then walk away like it was nothing. Carter had Cyrus on edge the entire movie, then Cyrus just says the hell with it? I don't get it.

Arrogant. Probably thought it would be a while before Carter recovered. Or thought that if Carter did come back to fight again, he could knock Carter out again. I'm with you on this, didn't have too much logic. P.S. I'm a firm believer that Carter always faked losing the fight. Judging by the can of whoop-ass he layed on Cyrus afterwards.

I didn't like how Carter came back and beat him so easy. If the dancing crowd wasn't there it wouldn't of been so easy. It was like Carter used the crowd as a distraction, to get at him so quick.

Maybe, but my take on it was that Carter could always have been Cyrus that easily, and that he was holding back in the first fight because he wasn't sure that Cyrus was really the one responsible, and he needed to be sure. After all, he's not a mindless thug who doesn't care whom he hurts; he wants the guy responsible for killing his brother, and getting the wrong guy means the actual guy gets away with it. So he figured if he held back and let Cyrus beat him, let himself look ineffective and thus not a real threat, then maybe Cyrus would get cocky and let something slip. And Cyrus did just that. So then Carter, who was always a much tougher guy -- a leg breaker and enforcer, who roughs people up for a living, rather than just a porn impresario -- came in and really let Cyrus have it once he knew Cyrus was indeed the man who killed his brother.

^Exactly this.

Arrogant.
Yeah! He thought he owned him after the first fight and his reputation was over-rated. Mind you, I thought the second round was pathetically presented; darkness and poor editing meant you could barely see anything and it was all over in a matter of seconds. What should have been a highlight, became literally a low light.🐭

I think it was highlighted early in the movie, that Cyrus didn't believe that Carter would care enough to "go next level" (even his brothers wife ask's why he suddenly cares) . Also Cyrus knows there is lot of hits ordered against Carter and he has to skip town fast so Carter would just leave or get thrown out by "capuchino guy".

The whole premise is about that it's a real environment so when he beats him the first time he's thinking there's nothing else. Nothing is going to happen and it's over. He can't just kill Carter because he doesn't want to be wanted for murder and spend the rest of his life in jail or running from the Law. The second time Carter ambushes him and contemplates killing him which he does. He didn't care about running from the law his whole life which he does. Hence, killing everyone in the process and his change of look.
