Is there ANY possible way to leave North Crater or am I stuck for good?

I finished Final Fantasy VII almost half a year ago (Sephiroth was a pushover) but I was never able to 100% all the side quests (collect all materia, weapons, ribbons, limit breaks, etc.) I found that I was trapped in the Northern Crater. Seriously, I can't leave!

I heard a rumor that if you plant the save point at the part where Cloud says, "Let's split up," (which is what I did) there's a glitch that traps players from ever leaving. Is this true? Please tell me I don't have to start over. My whole party is at level 99 so I'm not starting over (at least anytime soon).

Tough luck dude. Do you have a another save before you entered the Northern Crater?? I always do like 5 different saves heheh.

No, you can leave dude. No glitch. Climb back out. It may seem like you're stuck, but you can jump/climb all the way back up to the airship. Sometimes you gotta press the control pad in a direction you wouldn't normally think would work. If the edge you need to reach is a little to the right above you, you may have to hit RIGHT to jump up instead of UP. Just jam that control pad in all directions and slam the X button down and you'll see him jump up eventually.

I did (my other save file was around Rocket Town, which I'd gladly play through again instead of starting over). Problem is my friend saved over my second file. He came over, saw me playing and asked if he could start a new file (he's never played Final Fantasy before) so I said sure. Then I go out to grab a bite, come back, he leaves and I find out he saved over my second file. He said, "What? I thought you wouldn't mind. I mean, you did have two save files." Uggggggh!

So, I'm really stuck, huh? Beautiful.

Dude...did you even read my post? There is NO WAY you're stuck down there. Try again. I thought I was stuck before too. You just gotta keep trying. Once you figure it out, you'll never have this problem again.

Right here is where I used the save point and coincidentally the same place I can't leave/climb back up.

I've tried climbing up that ledge a MILLION times! Each result is the same: nothing. I thought it might be the controller so I went out, bought a new one and tried that but nothing. I just can't climb back up.

Hmmm you're supposed to be able to climb up no matter what. Try it out a few more times and if it doesn't work then you've probably encountered a glitch.

I believe the button you want to hit on that ledge to the left is actually circle. Not X. Run up to that drooping ledge, jam the control pad in all the directions and keep hitting circle until you grab it.

If it STILL doesn't work, you may need to meet your party at the bottom right before you head into the territory where the JENOVA song starts playing. Don't initiate the sequence of no return. Talk to your guys, get what they collected and then head back to the spot where you took the screenshot. It should work.

Sorry to everyone on this thread for disappearing.

To be honest, it didn't work. Tried for an hour pressing every button I could to climb the pillar, went down to my party and kept speaking with them hoping they'd all return up the cave and let me leave but nothing. I even invited all my friends (three of them that have been playing Final Fantasy VII since it was released) and can't figure it out. Don't know what happened.

I decided to start over yesterday. Only played for a few hours and am only out of Midgar but I'm not complaining. Fun game that I'll enjoy playing again but I'm seriously dreading catching, breeding, raising, and racing Chocobos again for Knights of the Round again. That part's going to drive me insane... again!!

That's just crazy dude. Honestly you're the first I've heard of that had this problem. So my apologies if I was a little unwilling to be convinved earlier. =)

But it's nice that you're restarting. I play it probably once a year. Never gets old.

Try separating into the groups, go off to the next area, then come back to that area (after all party members aren't there), and try climbing up there again.
