Damn! Which one to play?

As a massive Final Fantasy fan, I am dying to play one of them again as it's been far too long since I've played a decent Final Fantasy (the last few have been let downs), but am torn between 7 and 8! What one should I waste countless hours playing all over again?

You can complete FFVII in like 5 days or less. FFVIII is a game that takes a looooong time no matter how many times you've completed the game and how good you are at it. If you have alot of free time on your hand then go with FFVIII. If not then choose VII.

I love the 2 of them and just need something to take my mind off work/studying etc. I'm leaning more towards VII as it's quite simply the best game of all time and VIII is a close 2nd.

FFVIII is a great way if you wanna take your mind of work/studying. You'll play so much that you won't even think about studying and you'll still be in disc 1 hahah. While FFVII is such an epic game, it ends very fast. But in overall I find VII a better game but VIII is the way to go if you wanna spend lots of time playing.

If you do have lots of free time on your hands, then games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion might be worth checking out.

Final Fantasy VII. Definitely one of the great ones of the series. Personally, I prefer VI and IX over it but VII is definitely an epic game. It's a little easy though. I made it to the end of the game once but a glitch trapped me from leaving that area so I had to start over. Made it through the first disc in two days. Regardless a great game.

Final Fantasy VIII is alright. It's definitely a "love it or hate it" for the series. I leaned more toward the "hate it" crowd but still think it's okay. The junction system takes time to get used to and the draw system is just annoying (in my opinion). The story is decent though. Also, as the other poster said, it'll definitely take you much longer to complete than VII. The materia system is much simpler and easy to grasp, as well as more fun combining different materia to your characters, whereas the junction system... well, you be the judge.

I have mixed feelings about the junction system. I felt like it took to long to get a hang of it. I didn't truly get how it works untill disc 4. I had battled through hell with every boss in the game because I didn't junction my characters any good. But during my second playthrough I figuered out the whole drawing system and junction and the game instantly became much more fun. Though sitting and just drawing from enemies is a bitch and can bore the hell outta you.

Agreed. I got very bored very quickly of drawing from enemies that you could easily kill in 1 or 2 attacks. But that's my only major problem with the game

I started playing FFVIII yesterday. It's been a long time since I played it. Though so far it's been really easy. I remember that I used to struggle with the GF Diablos. This time i took him down as soon as I got the magical lamp and it went down in 2 minutes. Stupid Diablos. Though what an awesome GF he is.
