IMDB Top 100 Game Rankings

Ok, i'm going to design a list, but I need everyones help. I'm assuming we have a lot of people with a lot of different game interests, so I need everyone to check out all your favorite games, or anything you think will have a high ranking, and post them on this thread, or private message me.

Once the list is compiled I will personally paste it on every board in the top 100 games, and then it will expand even more, and become even more accurate. So far I have done a 1st top ten. It's probably best that if anyone sees anything, just post the game and score that it has, and i'll check it out and update the list, but we'll see how it goes. For now, I would say anything above 9.2 is worth mentioning for now, and we can extend it lower later on. I'll organize it as appropriate, but i've only done it for 9.5 and above at the moment. And the dashes are there to keep everything alligned as it doesn't seem to like lots of spaces!!

So..... on that note, i am now officially launching the IMDB top 100 Game Rankings

Rules: Game must have at least 500 votes in order to be eligible. List will be updated weekly.

I plan too, but I thought i'd take it one step at a time. I'll leave this up here until Sunday, then i'll update the list, then whack it on the MGS film board. Then i'll take it to the MGS4 board, And so forth. But I don't particuarly want to do too many at one time, otherwise i'll lose complete track of what i've done and not.

I'm excited about this list though :).

Grand Theft Auto III: 9.2

Halo (2001): 9.0

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: 9.5 (can't believe nobody said that already)

Final Fantasy VI: 9.2

Final Fantasy X: 9.2

What did you decide to make as the minimum votes? 500?

Do you even care how many votes there are Tjevs? Or does it just need to be above 9.2?

Yes I want to include the vote count as that will decide the position of the game. If two games are both 9.6, but one has 1000 votes more than the other one, then it will be above it. I also think it's interesting to see how many people have actually voted according to the series. I'll update the vote count every week (I have a bit of spare time on Sundays), and edit any position necessary. As for the 9.2 mark, i'm only saying that because it should give us a top 50 - 75? And once it seems that there are few games left then we'll try adding the ones with 9.0 and higher etc. Until we get a top 100. Then list will be posted on all top 100 games threads, and I guess i'll keep a list of names to thank for the shared effort. Over time, we should be able to construct a 99.9% accurate listing of what the top 100 games are on imdb.com, and then it won't bother me anymore.

Waffles: Nice games, I forgot about the other zeldas. And I said 500 because it seems that anything with above 500 votes seems to create a fair mark for what the majority of voters think. Any less, and you could just get a couple of hundred people (by a chain email or some other mass spamming technique) to vote 10 on something like... umm...... *thinks*...... Final Fantasy X-2! (think I voted a 7, but only because it's Final Fantasy. If it wasn't I would have given it a 2). This would result in the game earning a much higher rank than it deserves, making the list unfair and inaccurate.

Basically I think it's a realistic mark to avoid any efforts to sabotage the list.

What do you think guys? Should it be higher? lower? I want to hear everyone's ideas and opinions about this list. So all suggestions are welcome!

Well yes it can work both ways i.e. games deserving to be higher or not worthy of being high enough. But I don't really mind what's where, I just want to create an accurate factual list, so should be good.

Here's an updated list I've done for you Tjevs... It's added in all of the suggestions made by people(and also checked for votes where they hadn't listed them), and I've also thrown in some games I thought would probably be high in a top 100 list.. So this is how your accumulation stands thus far:

There's undoubtedly games out there on IMDb, higher than the ones posted here.... People just need to IMDb search every game theyve ever known to be half-decent to find them. Saying that though, I searched some truly awesome games like Ico and Okami which had high marks but because of bad advertising or just a core fanbase who don't use the IMDb, they fall way short of the 500 threshold. Anyway, enjoy the list thus far!

Dang SuperCelebi. You rock dude. What a pal to do all that for Tjevs.

But you know... some of the legendary games are the old ones like Zelda 1, Metroid, Tetris, Contra, Megaman 2, etc, etc. IMDB wasn't around when those were released so there's no way they're gonna get over 1000 votes.

So I take it this list will be comprised of N64 and later?

Wow, that's really cool! Thanks for helping me out with that SuperC. I'll update it on Sunday and start posting it around the boards after that. Hopefully we should see some more development then.

As for your comment X, do you think that perhaps it would be worth lowering the amount of votes necessary for entitlement to the list? Or are the votes so few for those games that it would be too low a threshold?

Actually based on the great information SuperC submitted, I have a new plan. We'll start off with a top 50. If we can get a top 50 together before sunday, then we'll post that on all 50 boards. To be honest, there is probably a lot more games that will fit in between these ones, so by simply getting those it should boost the list up to about 70 - 80. Then it's just finishing it off. Who knows.... we could end up having a top 250... (that would be a pain to maintain lol).

Oh yes, and well done for your work, but you forgot Super Mario Bros. 3 which comes in at position 22, with 9.5, and the original Super Mario Bros.! which comes in at 9.2 above FF IV. hehe.

i've also added a few early resident evil games, and monkey island games. One of the sims games is up there as well

So I guess games from the 80's will make it into the list =D!

No problem, I had a few hours to kill and decided It'd be fun to lend a contribution to your project. ^_^ Yeah I don't know why I forgot the mario games, my brain got a bit frazzled after an hour and was just totally blank at thinking up games to search lol, I'll continue my scouring when I next have a rainy day. *thumbs up*

Yeh I think that could work, with a lower amount of votes elligible for entry. But we'll get this one finished first. That way half the work will be done for us =D!

Also, I am working on it, my partners been sick for the past couple of days so I haven't had a chance to update the list. I will do it before christmas and post it on all the other boards too!

Sorry for the late response. Beloved was ill, and now i'm sick as a 'be-atch'.

I'd like you to expand on what you mean by 'niche' titles. As far as i'm concerned it needs to be 500 votes or more, and have a high score. Mainstream or not doesn't come into it. If you know of a game that nobody will ever had heard of, is on IMDB, and meets these requirements then it will make the list. Please post any suggestions on this board.

I will post an updated list in a bit, just to show my progress but I haven't been on much in the past few weeks.

That's great, i'll make a note of masquerade and keep an eye on it. As for half life, 8.5 is actually pretty low on the computer games. It's not really that hard to find games 9.0, I was just using 9.2 and higher as a starting point. But i'll keep it in mind =D. Can't believe I missed GTA III!
