Those are all great choices, i know this isn't FF but I love the frog's hero theme in Chrono Trigger.
shareI've played FF's I, IV, V, VI, VII (Favorite of course), VIII (Best Music), IX, X, XII and Tactics. Oh, and Crystal Chronicles but that doesn't really count.
As big a fan as I am of Nobuo Uematsu's work on the FF series (phenomenal!!!), my two favorite VG scores are Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy Tactics. Both are brilliant beyond words. If you haven't heard them check em out. The song "Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World" is one of the most moving and most beautiful themes I've ever heard.

To the OP, you must play FFVIII. Not the greatest of the series from a story, game play, character, battle system point of view. But the music is second to none (well, except for Chrono Cross and FFT). Best of the series in my opinion. The music was the one element of Final Fantasy VIII that truly shined.
There was not a single FF game that Nobou Uematsu scored that was in any way less than the others. The FF series will not be quite the same without him. I'm really curious to see how the score for FFXIII will turn out. Masashi Hamauzu has worked on the series in the past and has been with Square since 1996. I'm hoping he's up to the challenge.
Here's a couple from IX that I'm particularly fond of:
Jester's of the Moon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HReJaN5Er1U
Assault of the White Dragons - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaQ9ppIpdsI
and from VIII:
The Landing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wholevuBzEA
Enjoy!!

I really loved the soundtrack of six, I'm not sure why, but it's probably something to do with Kefka Pelazzo's theme, Dancing Mad. The scenes with Ultros/Orthros, the opera, and the battles all had great music. It's so hard to pick favourite tunes coz the series has such an epic list of songs. Kudos to Nobuo Uematsu... and whoever took over from him for ten onwards.
See you, Space Cowboy.
Dude, thanks for the recomendations. I like the Landing, love the Chrono Cross song, won't listen to the FFIX songs till I beat the game, but I'm sure they're great, too. Rock on!

ALL the music from VI blows everything else out of the water, my favorite being Mines of Narshe.
Then it's Final Fantasy VII's overworld map music.
Then all music from Final Fantasy IV.
Everything else.
It's a sad thing that your adventures have ended here
the Map music from VII is simply amazing. I was very dissapointed with the map music in VIII. It's not memorable at all.

I think Anxious Heart is the best. It captures so much feeling and any time I hear it, even though I hadn't played VII in my childhood but only just played it recently, it makes me feel nostalgic for something that feels missing...definitely evokes the mood and feeling it's meant to from within the game. And thinking back on some of the moments the tune weaves in and out of in the game, my goodness, it became almost Pavlovian, lol
Mako Reactor is also fantastic.
Other favorites are Balamb Garden from VIII, and Over the Hill from IX
I always really liked Rufus' theme song...
