Key of the Anchients crash

Playing FF7 on my PSP (single eboot file) I am at the Key of the Anchients and when the old guy tells me to walk into the waterfall the game crashes, it just goes to a blak screen.
I hear this is a common place to crash. Does anyone know how to get past this?
