I've played and mastered FF8 god knows how many times, its my escape game, when I need to relax, but recently I've purchased all the FF's from 3 through 10 and I'm trying to get use to the materia system, being so use to junctioning through GF's (summons), I was wondering if there are any good tips on how to level up or what materia is useful with which characters, I just got Yuffie and am heading to Mt. Corel, any tips?

Not sure if you're still needing info or not, but I'd suggest checking out some materia guides on gamefaqs. There are some great materia, and some that are so devastating that they pretty much take any challenge out of the game, such as Knights of the Round.

Much later, you can add combos such as Life and Final Attack, so that if you die, you're automatically revived. Some popular ones are Counter maxed out with multiple ones equipped... so essentially if you're hit you can just counter 8x or more.

Early on in the game, I found the Enemy Skills materia to be a life saver, if you're not doing a whole lot of leveling up. The trick of course, having the person with the materia equipped living through the enemy skill (and finding the enemies who use them!) Beta is a good one, and you can snag it from the Midgar Zolm very early.

Interesting that FFVIII was your favorite. I found the junctioning system to be so annoying that it took a lot of fun out of the game for me.
