Just wanted to say
If a remake is made, please don't ruin it with a stupid sphere grid or anything of the like. Anyone else hate the sphere grid? That's what kills FF10 for me.

Why are you telling us?? Shouldn't you be writing a letter to square or something?? I mean it's not like anyone in here has any control over the remake.

They obviously don't listen since fans have been telling them to remake FF7 since they cockteased us with the tech demo back in 2005. It was just something I felt like complaining about because I have an immense hatred for the sphere grid :)

If they remake the game, i'm pretty sure they'll simple re-do everything that the old game had, and add a whole bunch of additional content.
shareI doubt you'd have to worry about that. The only stuff they'd remove or change would probably be the "politically incorrect" things like Cloud cross-dressing and Cid's smoking and cussing (already done in Advent Children).
I liked the Sphere Grid though. It was awesome.
I completely agree I want them to return to the days of random battles an grinding I want classic RPG game play. I don't like the way these newer ones do it. I think it was twelve that did fights in real time, if I wanted to play Secret of Mana I would be playing Secret of Mana. When I play an RPG I expect random battles and the normal leveling up...
shareYeah I didnt like the sphere grid either but I never liked FF10 in the first place. I doubt they will remake FF7. If they do, it wont be till I have no time to play videogames or even care bout them. Besides that, people will complain about them and tell them to remake FF8 also.
shareI don't really want a remake but I just want a similar styled game. I want random battles, I want the same fighting system, but I have no problem with an original story, I don't see a remake as needed...
shareI miss the old turn based system. That's why I never played any FF after 10 because they changed it.
shareI completely agree never understood why it was abandoned...
shareYeah in rpgs, I only play turn based, I can't get into an rpg with real time battle. I don't like how FF changed and they made it online.
shareAre there any good turn based ones on PS3 that you recommend?
shareI don't own a ps3 so I wouldn't know. I own 360. But I heard Dragon age origins is a turned based and heard its a good game.
I have Eternal sonata for 360 and its also for ps3. It's sort of turn based but has an unique system. It might be too cutesy and girly if you don't like that kind of thing.

While i'm definitely scared of a remake being more Advent Childreny than 'FF7ny', they definitely have to change the dialogue. The translation of FF7 is probably the worse from the whole series, and is a big reason why even today major parts of the game's story are misinterpreted or not understood well on even a large scale, even on a general consensus scale. It is also corny or just bad alot of the times.
It was also a widely held belief before FF7 became like "The Godfather" of video games and the whole extended universe additions that the ending(/game) was still a little rushed, and that the complex elements were not completely finalized, at least when lookin from an English translation standpoint (they were probably planning to do sequels all along).
That said, there were serious nuances, as well as daring things that the game did that definitely need attention to be paid to (ie., the Sephiroth finds Jenova chamber scene, where he professes his hatred for mankind in FF7, is superior to the Crisis Core one, despite the better technical graphics. Or the mature issues like Cid's smokin or cross-dressing mentioned above, etc. All things that gave it the darker, grim, realer world that made it great.)

Overall I didn't think the Sphere Grid was that bad. It gave you, the user, much more control over how you wanted to build your characters, and it kept each character in a different realm until later in the game.
You also had the ability to remove lower stats and add stronger ones later, kind of cool. In a way, this reminded me of FFVI, and how you could equip specific espers to max stats much quicker.
Chrono Cross I managed to beat, but to this day I cannot recall how the leveling up / attack process works! It was just a jumbled mess and sadly I think it does a poor job of tying in the previous Chrono game. The music was fantastic though!
