I felt the book is infinitely better than the film as it offers A LOT more depth.

Yet so many people simply can't be bothered to pick up and read the book...

Uh, wasn't it an extreme best-seller before it was a movie? So plenty have read the book.
The real question is why won't more people watch Six Feet Under! :-)

I think if you were to ask people most would reconize the title as a book than a movie.
