What Was Nicholai's Fate According To The Real Story (Canon)?

Did he:

a) Get killed by the Nemesis.
b) Get shot down in the chopper. (he's dead either way in a or b)
c) Escape the city in the chopper.

The only thing we know for sure is he wasn't killed by Nemesis. However, they've yet to reveal if he was killed or escaped.

Hopefully he survived. Among Super Wesker, Leechman and all other assorted wackiness it was nice just to have a good ole fashioned Eastern Euro bad guy.
