Do women really want men to know what they're thinking?

The female characters in this movie praise Mel for having a "great gift", but in reality, wouldn't women be creeped out by men who could read their minds? Isn't that a breach of privacy?

reply

I would be creeped out if anyone knew my thoughts lol

I would be creeper out if they knew what I was thinking and they would be creeped out to know what I was thinking.. :-P

Of course it is. We don't even want other women to know our thoughts. The "That dress looks so cute on you!" might just mean "I know you're really trying, and I'm determined to be supportive!"

Life's hard enough without those complications.

On the other hand, it should be a felony to lie when you're a politician. I'd like a way to make sure we got the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth from those guys...and gals.

You will probably disagree. That's the nature of discussions -- they have two sides.

Sometimes they really want that, but most often don't. Yes, it would creep out them.

I don't think anyone wants people to know what they're thinking. I don't think anyone would ever get along if we knew what others were REALLY thinking.

You are right. Still, it would be so cool to read minds once in a while (especially the minds of women).

I've always wanted to know what other people are thinking. But, yeah, I think most people couldn't handle it. Most women want men to CARE what they're thinking, and consider them. The reason the premise works so well with this film is this man is the archetypal sexist pig male who has never given any consideration to a woman's point of view or thoughts.

To clarify, I'm sure all people at times want to know what others are thinking, to understand what's going on in their head and I'm sure most women wish their man understood them better and knew what they wanted and did what they were wanting or give them what they hoped for without being asked. They wish their man intuitively just "knew" what she needed or what he could give her that she deep down needed.

But as far as the film went, someone being to able to hear word for word, thought for thought every single idea, thought, desire, criticism, revulsion, disgust, annoyance a person had, every time you thought another man was attractive, every time you secretly thought Ugh! I'm so sick of you, or you freaking idiot.....what the hell is wrong with you, every time you thought I wish I had chosen someone else or that you fantasized about someone else. Every time you thought I HAAATE it when he does this. There are lots and lots of thoughts people are glad that no one else will ever know that they had. So, someone basically being able to look inside every thought, whim, idea, hidden agenda and attitude one has would not be desirable. It would probably be rather violating.....no privacy at all. Every relationship would probably end if the other person knew what you TRULY thought in every moment.
