There's one aspect of the film that I always found confusing...
Why did Theo take that pregnant girl to the concentration camp? I mean, seriously, what was the point in that? Seeing that she was most likely one of the only pregnant girls on earth, out of all places, why would they willingly go to the camp?
They had no choice because that was the only place they could reach the ship that would take them to the Human Project.

shareThat's never clear in the film. It just happens. I think it's better that it's vague. Any explanation would be geek nit-pick fodder (I speak as one of the nerds) and it's better that we just focus on the themes of the film.
My best guess is that it was no one thing, but a combination of factors, and that it's related to a lack of care for people and the environment. The implication, I think, is that the ways we are poisoning our environment and ourselves is killing out innate humanity and leaving us literally and figuratively lifeless.
