The real problem is getting Microsoft and Nintendo to agree on it. Earlier this year, Microsoft and Nintendo were close to reaching an agreement that would release the game on Xbox Live Arcade and Wii's Marketplace. One of the companies (depending on who you talk to, either Microsoft or Nintendo) got too greedy, and the talks ended.
Hopefully they'll sit down again in the future to get the game back on current gen systems.
