Best First-Person Shooter Yet

If any video game made you feel completely part of the movie from which it spawned, it was Goldeneye. Right from the very opening with the typical James Bond entrance you knew this was something special.

Music - Simply outstanding. In keeping with the film, the background music maintains the murky, industrial edge whilst layering in elements of the famous Bond theme.

Graphics - Very good, even 10/11 years on. The character models were a tad 'sharp' and blocky, but the scenery itself was superb and I believe a fair amount was modelled on the film sets themselves.

SFX - Satisying and realistic gun sounds. An odd noise when you get hit, mind.

Gameplay - Highly addictive. Many levels to get through and the different difficulty levels never make it seem boring. In fact, I could keep going back to this game over and over and over. Trying to beat the time challenges to unlock cheats also gives another element of satisfaction.

Multiplayer - The icing on the cake. Enough said, really.

All in all, in my eyes, this is the best first-person shooter to have been made so far on any console.

I'm with you on that man. I keep trying to find a game that compares, but none ever will.

@ OP... you said, "All in all, in my eyes, this is the best first-person shooter to have been made so far on any console."

i would agree with you here but mainly cause of the Nostalgia effect of it as i remember playing this game in the 'old days' (i was about 18 when it came out) ;) ... cause not to long after GoldenEye i got to used to playing shooters on a PC and from there on out i cant play shooters on consoles anymore cause it's just to hard to aim at stuff.

but about your graphics comment... in there day they where good but today they look quite a bit worse than i remembered them (i fired up the game on my pc using a emulator and the character models are quite bad lol... so my advice to anyone who had memories of GoldenEye is to keep it 'memories' , dont fire up the game now cause as far as graphics you will be disappointed lol)

but you where right about the multiplayer thing... cause even though today i would easily rather play Counter-Strike in that sense ... i do remember having alot of good times playing this against my cousin on the Archives level 'back in the day' ;) ... and i remember us each having a fit getting killed on that crappy spawn point down that hallway on the archives level as you would get killed there a good amount.

i think the 'Archives' level is BY FAR the best multiplayer level in GoldenEye on N64. (that's what i have the most memories on to)

plus those dual chrome type guns felt great blasting away at my cousins shattering those glass windows and trying to take each other out ;) (those guns as far as im concerned pioneered great 'feeling' weapons in games today ;) )

its probably the best FPS still eventhough far cry, FEAR, and call of duty 4 come in a close second.

The best part, is in multiplayer where you have to be women and you can only slap!

it's just one of those Nostalgic memories I have picking up the controller first time after getting my N64 for Christmas and loading the game, It really saddens me that it's been over 12 years, Really some of my best memories playing that game.
And yes, Best FPS IMO Too.

The disappointment of the "bad character models" could be due to your video card and which video plugin you're using on the emulator.
