What the.... James?! Gordon???!!

What the heck is with their voices?! James sounds like a little girl, and Gordon sounds like an uppity British sitcom butler!

I was searching around youtube just to sample the Engines' voices; I read that Henry, my favorite Engine, is the only one given an American voice, so it piqued my curiosity. Eh, Henry's okay, but Gordon and James-- whom I've imagined to be big and burly and vain and arrogant respectively--came off as very unexpected and even very silly.

Oh, well.

I agree, they sound like children. The problem is they hired fifth rate voice actors to play the engines. I guess all the good voice actors like Frank Welker, Corey Burton, Jim Cummings, and the cast of The Simpsons were too busy or way above their budget.
Besides, I'm sure what wasn't spent on the movie was paid to Peter Fonda, Alec Baldwin and Didi Conn as extra compensation.

I agree with you mojo91etc.

They may have changed their voices but they didn't change their characters. I loved Gordon's line putting down Thomas. "...and I on the other hand, am the big blue engine, who knows EVERYTHING."

For the most part, they picked voices that suited the characters. ...especially Toby and Percy.
