The shows creators are looking oddly prescient about Seattle

The Seattle city council just moved to abolish its police force. Not content with allowing neomarxist anarchists to take over a portion of the city for a while, letting riots go unchecked, and voting to deprive their police of the most effective riot/crowd-control tools available, they now want to go all in on the leftist nonsense and abolish the police force their entirely. Not defund -- they're proposing total dissolution. Non-profit programs and “community-led activities” will replace policing, and will be "trauma-informed, gender-affirming," and "anti-racist." Because, of course, the Seattle PD is a vehicle of white supremacy. It's typical 'woke' leftist nonsense. Part of me hopes they do this. It will not turn out well. But given how strong the political support for this super-leftist city council is in the city... Well, the people there voted for this nonsense. I think they are going to have to get precisely what they asked for, and see how it actually works in practice in order to realize what their policies and their ideology will actually bring them.

Back in 2000, when this series debuted, they set it in a then-future 2019 Seattle, that had become a corrupt, authoritarian, 3rd world-style hellhole. They were more right than they knew. They were just off by one year, and wrong about the cause of the collapse.

All it took was an EMP and severe leftism to propel Seattle into where it was in the show. I haven’t been following real life Seattle for some time, any updates on the police force?

black people walk around with impunity and the police force just hands out parking tickets.
