Lydecker was awesome. Who else liked him?
My favorite line from lydecker was that bitch killed one of my kids. Other favorite lines from anyone else regarding Lydecker?
shareMy favorite line from lydecker was that bitch killed one of my kids. Other favorite lines from anyone else regarding Lydecker?
shareHe was a great "bad guy" (not sure I'd characterize him as a bad guy) and the series made alot of blunders in season #2 of which removing Lydecker was a major one.
shareLydecker was the big bad guy in the beginning. But with the introduction of of other 'badder' and more evil enemies like Renfro and White, Lydecker became almost likeable.
shareYeah that's what made him so compelling I think, because he wasn't just this simple, one dimensional bad guy like the other "badder" characters in season #2. Lydecker's relationship with the X5's was complex, almost fatherly like. This was creative and dynamic, whereas the one dimensional bad guys and gals of Season #2 were not.
share"That bitch killed one of my kids." is my favorite line, too!
My second favorite line might be the one in which he said to Max that she has the eyes of his late wife and that he designed Max with his wife in mind as role model. With this he revealed that he was more or less directly involved in the "production" of the X5s and not only was their teacher and supervisor.
I already liked Lydecker towards the end of season 1 and was sad that he had to leave the show at the start of season 2. In some way he really cared about the X5s.
Yes, they really screwed up the series in season 2! The most changes where dictated by the network. For example, Lydecker had to leave because John Savage aka the actor who played him became too old for the Fox network. Nana Visitor who played Renfro said so in an interview.
The other big change regarding the direction the series was going was caused by the terror attacks from 9/11. Apparently the way the series used to be, suddenly hit too close to home so that it had to change. In my opinion to the worse. I rather would have liked to see Syl and Krit again and got to know Zane, Jondy and Max's surrogate mother instead of Ames White, the snake cult and the freak of the week. But the worst thing was the virus. Watching Max and Logan being kept apart by it was as if someone ripped my heart into pieces and stomped on it over and over again. It would have been OK if it only was for a few episodes and cured by the middle of season 2 at the latest but dragging out the cure over and over again was simply too much and too long. In the DVD audio commentary the writers/producers said that they wanted to cure the virus in season 3 so that Max and Logan could get together. I would have loved to see that.
House to Wilson about Cuddy: She is not some floozy in a bar. She is the floozy I work for.
I pretty much agree with all of this.
And what still annoys me the most is that at the time of filming he last episodes of season 2, they were renewed for season 3. If they had known it would not be a season 3 at that time, I am pretty sure they would have tied a few loose ends rather than introduce new stuff. The books, and the wonderful "Virtual season 3" is well worth the read for anyone who want a continuation, and some answers!
Even a whole season with that stupid virus would have felt better if it was resolved in season 3, and Logan and Max could've been together. I mean surgical glowes, duct tape and bleach just for holding hands... give em a break!
I actually liked S2 better than 1 but then again I saw the whole thing on DVD. Maybe if I saw it week to week it would be a diff experience...
Good God Gurl Get A Grip!
I discovered the show during spring 2014 and binge watched the entire series within less than a month. I quickly fell in love with the show aka season 1 and enjoyed it very much. But watching season 2 was really painful and sad. By the time Max broke up with Logan in order to protect him from the deadly virus she was carrying, I considered to not watch the remaining episodes because it was too depressing watching Max and Logan suffer because they couldn't be together. Even Joshua who I adore and that in my opinion Jessica Alba looks much more stunning cute and hot than in season 1 couldn't help. I only watched the remaining episodes out of curiosity about how the show will end. That Joshua lost Annie dragged my mood even more further down.

I liked the depressive episodes.....I don't mind gloom in shows.
Good God Gurl Get A Grip!
The news from the real world on TV are depressive enough for me. No need to fill up the fictional TV shows with depressive storylines, too! A depressive episode every now and then is OK but an entire season is simply too much.

Have you checked out the novels? Some say they're awful.

I have read the books, quite awhile ago. They are not great works of litterature if that's what one wants. But for fans of the series, they are ok. They tell he story and fill in some gaps both to things that happened before we enter the series, and what happens afterwards.
If the fan written "Virtual season 3" is still out there, I warmly recomend reading it. Well written and tells the story of what happens after Freak nation. IMO that came pretty close to how I would have liked season 3 to be.
The books are good but the "Virtual season 3" is fantastic and much better. Yes, it is still online available to read! I also would have loved to see something like that as season 3 on TV. The "Cape Haven Writers Group" did an awesome job writing it.
Some people dismiss the books as fanfiction, which they are not. If they are just fanfiction then the authors would have had to alter things so much that it isn't recognizable anymore that the stories are from the Dark Angel universe. (For example, the author of the Twilight fanfiction had to make drastic changes first before she was allowed to sell it as " Fifty Shades Of Grey".)
Instead the books contain the ideas the writers and producers had for season 3. D.A. Stern alias the author of "The Eyes Only Dossier" even mentioned that the FOX network provided the background information for it.

The books are "Tie-Ins." Authors are hired to write "Tie-Ins," so the books are canon to the shows/movies/comics/etc. they are based on. The "Tie-In" authors do not own their works.

Lydecker > Ames White
_______
The sun is shining... but the ice is slippery.
I liked season 2 better as well but Alec and Joshua were my favorite characters. I liked it when Lydecker took his kids' side over his career. I started liking him then and hated to see him die but I knew it was coming.
"Everybody creates what they fear most."
He didn't die which was even more frustrating as a viewer because you knew he was being held captive by the cult. Thankfully the book gave Lydecker closure.
