Missy Is Gay

Anyone else think so? Not just because, when this movie was released, Eliza Dushku was at the height of her dykeyness.

But- Missy got offended when called an "uberdyke," was always eyeing Tor, touched her arm unnecessarily during the 1st Clover confrontation, asked the two guy cheerleaders about their sexuality, seemed superexcited at the two girls maybe being gay for each other, seemed jealous that Tor was into Cliff...

GAY.

Some people are just desperate and they look for "gay" anywhere they can, even if they have to make stuff up.

^That! SO annoying! it's like those people who look for hidden Freudian sex themes in children's storybooks and cartoons bunch of bored teenage perverts with little better to think about or do I guess.

Go to the Gone With the Wind board. someone seriously thought Melanie had a crush on Scarlett

You've clearly never taken a college English class.

And if you think Grimm's fairytales aren't full of weird psychosexual shiz, then the joke's on you.

You're clearly exactly who I'm talking about. Or have never lived in the Western world.

Some might, who knows? You're kind of missing my point though. We live in a sex-saturated society where people think it's cute to say "OMG SNOW WHITE'S ABOUT CRACK" "OMG NARNIA PROMOTES SEXISM AND RACISM" "OMG SNOW WHITE AND ROSE RED WERE LESBIANS". What's worse is that this junk is repeated often enough so that people start getting fooled into thinking it's true.

And a lot of them (if not most) were not about that. We don't exactly have the authors around to discuss with, so people interpret it how they want instead of how it is.

But none of this has anything to do with Bring It On.

I definitely got that vibe when I first watched the movie. She also is the only main character without a love interest.

reply

I got that feeling too. When you first see her ask Torrence if she has a thing for her brother, she looks annoyed, like she's looking out for her brother or that anyone seeing her brother like that repulses her a bit.. however when you watch it again it's like she was a bit jealous like "Oh.. you like him don't you??"

Real love is FOREVER!!!!

reply

Just because a chick tries to acts tough doesn't make her gay. Notthattheresanythingwrongwiththat.

reply

So what if she was or wasnt gay?

reply

No she wasn't! There was nothing really tomboyish about her. She was just a girl with a tough as nail attitude. She was determined to show her best!

She wasn't gay. She had some masculine traits that some males like.

It's all up to the viewer. She was for the most part asexual in the film- she didn't have any romantic intrests or any overt signs of sexual attraction to anybody, though admittingly Missy and Torrance had a few mildly les-erotic moments. Given this was right before Eliza was becoming something of a lesbian icon, especially for her almost certainly bisexual (though not explicitly canon) Faith and her borderline foe romantic subtext with Buffy in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

So she could be gay, bisexual or just non-stereotypically-hetero, for the most part unless her sexuality is focused upon it isn't really a big deal what each individual viewer sees her as, though as usual it would be really refreshing to see more openly gay or bisexual characters in a mainstream hollywood movie.

... dah-ling

Whether she was gay or not, as a dude I'd roll in the hay with her 

reply

That I will say is kind'a truth about Faith, even Whedon agreed.

In Season 3, the episode "Bad Girls" was the epitome of this.

HOWEVER

Missy does not look lesbian to me, not that it'd matter if she was but I don't think she was.

what is driving this homoerotic thought process?

Nope.......just you.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

reply

She didn't seem jealous. In fact, she was encouraging both of them throughout the film. If she liked her, don't you think she would've done the opposite?

It's an ordinary high school day. Except that it's not.
