How did they do Missy's hair?
They look almost like dreads, but obviously they aren't since Eliza Dushku doesn't have them. Does anyone know how they made this style?

shareI'm sure Family Dollar was involved in the process.
stop having these disturbing fantasies! 😨share
I remember thinking her hair was so cool when BIO first came out. I can't tell you how exactly how they did it, but I can share how they didn't!
In my neck of the woods, at least, when BIO was released, drugstore hair products weren't nearly as advanced as they are today. You could get shine serum, you could get pomade and beach sprays, and light to crunchy hair spray. ( I assume they used some kind of wax product in the movie, along with a huge amount of hairspray.)
It was my teenage hope to have hair like Missy's. The only kind of goop with ANY hold that I could find back then, was pomade! (Which is 90% grease). So, banking on the slight stickiness and the twists to carry the style, I got my little self all excited and began to section my hair, coat each section with an enormous coat of greasy pomade, then I twisted it.
It actually looked like the movie- for about 5 minutes until I proudly left my house to show off my 'do. Then the heat of summer MELTED my pomade. All my tiny twists slowly unraveled, as the pomade liquified, and it dripped down my face and onto my shirt.
I ended up looking like I obtained said "hairstyle" by crawling into a Dumpster, where someone emptied the oil from their restaurant's fryer, then was mauled by a hungry dog.
I actually had a lot of experiences like this, and did a lot of very silly things, in the name of trying to look like the stars from the teen movies of the 90's and early 2000's.
There was an article in Seventeen magazine when the movie came out that said how to do it. You section off the hair in 2in sections. Braid it to the head about 1in, then coat the rest in bees wax. Twist, wrap in tin foil and then use a flat iron to heat from the roots to tips. Let it cool, then unwrap and scrunch.
shareI thought they were dreads. Or a wig to look like dreads.
