Coin challenge

I think anyone who loves this game has all 120 stars, but the ultimate challenge is to collect all the coins. I've done it for the first 10 or 11 levels, but some of the later ones are incredibly difficult. Like Rainbow Ride, for instance. Getting all the blue coins on that level is sick, even after that there's the risk of coins falling off ledges etc.

Try this challenge, it's hats off to anyone who can manage it

i 100% agree with you that its a great thing to try to do but have you figured out which level has the most coins?

Judging by the scores submitted at cyberscore.net, Tiny Huge Island has the most coins - 191. There's quite a few people with the same score, so I'd imagine that's the max...

Well, I signed up at cyberscore a couple of months ago, and I'm submitting all of my game scores there. So I decided to have a look at all the charts for SM64 to see which one has the most coins, and found that it was this one: http://www.cyberscore.net/chart-2140.php?limit=47

Since there are so many people with the same score, it's pretty safe to assume that 191 is the max. And... being stuck in a different level yesterday, I searched for a game guide (and found several), which also say that Tiny Huge Island has 191 coins.

Btw., trying to beat (or equal) a games' records on that site adds a whole new dimension to playing games... not to mention a little added value, since you keep playing even after you've completed it, trying to improve your scores/times. Especially if you're the competitive type.

I loved Super Mario 64. I finished it a few years ago and I'm giving it a bit of time so I can forget all the tricks and start over its so much fun!

Well, I started this thread nearly 2 years ago, and last night I finally collected the last of all 2091 coins in the game. The very last one I got was highest bully in the volcano in Lethal Lava Land. The only way you can get it is to push him off the edge then jump in after him and hope you can catch the coin before it hits the lava. Infuriatingly, you have to get 107 coins outside the volcano THEN go inside for the other 26. So if you mess up inside the volcano it's quite hard to take!

In response to an earlier post, there are actually 192 coins in Tiny Huge Island, but one is inaccessible, known as the 'impossible coin', as it is beneath the ground. It's in Tiny Island, where the balls come out of the mountainside. One coin on the same path is invisible but you walk over it and still collect it.
