A dark day for Mario
While some may believe this is the best Mario game, if not the best game ever, it aint so perfect. Don't get me wrong: despite not being able to play as Princess Toadstool, this is one of my favorite video games of all time. However, there is a seemingly eternal flaw that can never be forgiven. I can't stand Mario's new voice. It's bad enough they changed Princess (Peach) Toadstool's hair from red/brown to blonde in Super Mario World. Now Mario sounds like a complete idiot with his fake itallian accent. I want the old Brooklyn plumbers back (that goes for Luigi too), and I want the Princess that not only has her crimson hair back, but doesn't sound like the ditzy stereotype of a dumb blonde.
...and I am NOT saying that blonde females are dumb. There are, I know, very intelligent women out there -- even blonde ones.
...and when I said "dark", I meant dismall, depressing, almost evil. If the Mario Brothers were African-Itallian-American, this would probably be a positive thing, as it could make for some interesting interracial romance, if Nintendo has the guts!!
The bottom line: Mario, Luigi, and Peach sound terrible. No disrespect to Leslie Swan (Peach's voice) who is probably great at designing games, but she needs to make herself not sound so moronic. Charles Martinet, you're fired!!
