Now I Know Why There Is A Student Debt Crisis

Ryan and Steve ("Hunter") live in Bowles Hall, even though it is called something else in the movie, the most expensive dorm at Berkeley. Jennifer and her roommate apparently have an apartment in San Francisco. I am a 1972 and 1974 (two BAs) UC Berkeley alum and would never have been able to afford to live at Bowles Hall. I lived at Ehrmann Hall my first quarter before moving over to what is now the Berkeley Students Cooperative. I couldn't imagine paying for such expensive digs as Ryan and Jennifer have or consider it to be in any way practical in a time management sense for Jennifer to commute from San Francisco, even now with BART up and running.

And how do they keep getting over to the north end of the Golden Gate? What public transit could take you there from Berkeley? If they have cars, why are they never shown and where would they be parked? These kids are living way beyond the means of any average type college students. High schoolers, don't expect that getting into Berkeley will mean living in luxury or spending a lot of time partying. If you do, you'll be in debt slavery for the rest of your life.

The movie's over a decade old. let it go.

After reading your post, I began thinking whether the main characters had jobs. I don't think they ever say they have jobs.

Sorry to sound dense, but wasn't Ryan on a full scholarship so didn't have to pay fees?.

As to neither having jobs, this is set over a (3?) year period, so they could have had loads of jobs and they simply weren't shown....

Thanks OP for the transit info, as I didn't realise that there were no transport links from one side of the bridge to the other....
