Cassidy + Olivia - what did I miss!?

I began watching this show from season 13 to recent, finished those seasons and decided to go back. I'm now on season 4.

Quick question: what the heck happened to Olivia and Cassidy's relationship in the later seasons? I k ow they lived together. I'm not sure if I fell asleep and missed something or if it's a giant plothole.

All you must have missed was the episode where it became clear Benson and Cassidy were living in the same apartment but weren't living together. She always hooks up with a coworker whose as busy as she is and then she wonders why it falls apart. Anyway...Cassidy said they seemed to have more fun together when they were just "hooking up", Benson seemed to agree and they walked off hand in hand. That's basically what happened to Benson and Cassidy. But I'm sure it was "complicated".

She was also never the same after William Lewis episode; kidnapped, forced intoxication, assaulted, etc.! The break-up was inevitable!  

Olivia has NEVER been normal. Even before Lewis. She and Tucker make me puke.

Cardinal42 not normal either so she still butt-hurt over Dean Winters leaving the show it's been like that for over two years

I like Cassidy better as "Mayhem" on those insurance commercials better anyway. He's a hoot on those!

Cassidy written out of show is a spoiler, but this is it...

Cassidy got written out of the show when Kragen sent him on a personal visit to a rape victim that he would "check in on" every year. The rape was violent and the victim a mess, years later. Cassidy went to visit the victim and this was "the test" Kragen sent him for. He met the victim who was now a new victim all over again. Cassidy got there just in time for the brutal aftermath. The woman liked a guy, went with him "under the boardwalk down by the sea", he has his gang waiting, jumped and gang raped her for hours. They left her for dead, naked, with a beach towel. A good Samaritan came by and asked if she needed help. She did and was so happy, then the Samaritan raped her all over again. Cassidy could not take it, choked up to tears, even with the iced vodka that captain gave to him. Kragen transferred him to narcotics where he could "cowboy it up" busting drug dealers. So Cassidy was out, then and there.

Oh, thanks for the heads up. I miss Cassidy, he was like "the little boy" who is afraid to buy condoms and is not so sharp with the big words in the courtroom. Yeah, he did come back to the show. You guys are pretty sharp! 😁

Dean Winters is a good actor but the character of Cassidy sucked big time. One dimensional, cliched, dumb cop and sleazy douche. No chemistry with Benson either, pairing them up was a terrible idea.

GREAT synopsis, ohmster-1!!! That explained his original departure perfectly. I still remember that episode & that story was so sad! The girl got gang raped & then the "good Samaritan" rapes her, too? How messed up is that?!?!?!

I am glad it's over. This whole thing was a waste of time for everyone.

Clearly, Cragen is Olivia's real soulmate! 😀

Just have to say I REALLY disliked the Benson + Cassidy relationship. Even if you don't like Benson much, I never could figure what she saw in Cassidy. He seems like the kind of guy a woman might find attractive if she were young and he seemed like a rugged macho dude, but throughout the show Benson has always been portrayed as being smart and sensitive, and Cassidy seems like a guy who never made it through community college and way too volatile.
Maybe it was supposed to make for good drama but that pairing has always bugged me tremendously.

funny to read this think the same thing sometimes; some of the good actores are written out of the scripts wonder if the lame ones left are jealous
