If you love the movie, watch the series - it is worth it - Ignore the critics....

I made the mistake of reading a negative review and almost did not watch the start of this series.

On a lark, I gave the first episode a view and was hooked.

The creators of this series have done a fabulous job in the first three episodes of capturing the complete essence of the movie. The dialog is outstanding and each young actor is easily capturing those in the movie.

Hell, they even have a young Stan.

How this only has a 5.6 is ridiculous.

reply

NOPE! I love the movie but the series is a cheap copy from aliexpress.

reply

it better be good punk!

I always loved the film and I ignored the series because it's likely rubbish. but I'm going to give it a go purely because of this post.

I'll be back!

reply

Yeah, well, we'll see how much of the movie fan you are because if you don't like the series, then your taste is bogus.

reply

oh yeah?! well we'll see! we'll all see!!

and I can't remember who Stan is in the film at all!

reply

In the movie, Stan is the thick-glassed, balding man that initially calls Don Logan about the heist and ends up asking him what he is watching on the telly.

reply

ahhh yes now I remember, while Don is sat alone in his undies haha. I'll be rewatching the film soon.

I'm currently on ep 4, thanks for the recommendation!

reply

well well well.

turns out TruMovieFan was right. 1 episode in and I have to say I'm enjoying the show well more than I expected. starting ep 2 now.

casting is good too, Don was my biggest concern and while he's not great he is good and that's good enough for me considering he's trying to fill Kingsley's shoes. Gal is very well cast, and I didn't realise Tamsin Greig was in it but she's brilliant as usual.

*** SPOILER BELOW! ***

I didn't expect Gal to be reluctant to take on the job since it's so long before he retired, but I thought it was a good idea to give him reasons to be reluctant as it gives the show another parallel with the film which is nice

reply

I saw the reviews on Metacritic and they put me off. But the performances in the movie are so iconic that I don't want to watch an imitation.

reply

I read a review elsewhere and almost did not watch, then, at the same site, a different reviewer reviewed the first episode and raved about it.

And let me add this about the performances in the series - they are not and they are not mere "imitation."

Whoever cast this did a remarkable job and Stephen Moyer crushes it as Teddy Bass.
